Brainfloss privacy policy
Last updated: September 6, 2026
Brainfloss keeps your session data on your device unless you choose to back it up. No analytics SDKs. Ads are served by Google AdMob.
What stays on your device
All session data — focus sessions, breaks, scores, streaks, unlock counts, session labels, and settings — is stored locally on your device. There are no analytics SDKs tracking your behavior. Signing in is entirely optional; the app is fully functional without an account.
Optional cloud backup
If you sign in with Google (Settings → account), Brainfloss backs up your session history and daily scores to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), tied to your account. This exists so your history can follow you to a new device. What is stored: your Google account's basic profile (name, email address, photo URL and user ID) and your session records (start time, duration, session type, completion, unlock counts, daily scores, and any label you type on a session). It is transmitted and stored encrypted, is readable only by your account, and is never shared with anyone else or used for anything except showing you your own history. Signing out stops the backup; your data stays on the device.
AI focus tips
After a completed focus session, Brainfloss asks Google's Gemini API (via Firebase AI Logic) for a short break tip. The request contains only the length of the session you just finished, how many sessions you have completed today, your current streak, whether a short or a long break is starting, and which part of the day it is (morning, afternoon, evening or late night, taken from your device's clock and not from your location) — never your name, account, session labels, or anything else on your phone. Tips are generated on the spot and not stored.
The brainrot detector
The optional “brainrot detector” feature counts screen unlocks during
focus sessions using only the standard Android lock-screen broadcasts
(ACTION_SCREEN_ON / ACTION_USER_PRESENT). It does
not use accessibility services, does not see what you do on your phone, and
the count is stored only on your device.
Advertising
Brainfloss shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To request and measure an ad, AdMob collects device and usage information, including your device's advertising ID, IP address (from which an approximate, city-level location can be derived), device and app identifiers, and your interactions with the ads themselves. This is handled by Google as an independent controller under Google's advertising policies and its privacy policy.
Your focus sessions, scores, streaks, unlock counts, session labels, and Google account details are not shared with AdMob or any advertiser. The ad SDK does not receive your Brainfloss history.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, which also lets you opt out of personalized ads. Where local law requires it (for example the EEA and the UK), Brainfloss asks for your consent before serving personalized ads, and you can change that choice later.
Crash reports
Brainfloss contains no crash-reporting or analytics SDK. Diagnostic logs stay on your device. Apart from the optional cloud backup, the focus-tip request, and the ad requests described above, nothing about crashes, usage, or your device is sent anywhere.
Permissions
- Notifications — the ongoing timer countdown and session-complete alerts. Optional; the timer works without it.
- Foreground service / exact alarms — so a running session finishes on time even when the app is backgrounded or the device is dozing.
- Run at startup — so an in-flight session resumes after a reboot.
Data and account deletion
Uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device.
If you used the cloud backup, you can delete your account and every piece of backed-up data directly in the app: Settings → account → delete account. This permanently removes your profile, all backed-up sessions and scores, and the account itself from our systems — it is not recoverable. Data already on your device stays on your device.
No longer have the app installed? Email quantumappforge@gmail.com from the Google account you signed in with and the account and all its data will be deleted for you.
